Does Your Business Have The Right Property Insurance?
If your employer issues company-owned property to you, such as a laptop, and it becomes damaged, it may not be covered by your homeowner's policy. Your employer should have a with off-premises coverage. However not all businesses secure such coverage. For those that do, the coverage most likely includes limitations and exclusions that may increase the employee's responsibility should damage occur. Even that include business property coverage place limits on the amount of coverage provided and/or may not cover the property if the damage occurs away from the home. First, ask your employer about the guidelines for the use of company-owned property away from the office, including how financial responsibility for damages is determined. We are a nation filled with volunteers and we applaud those who give of their time. But, even actions with the best intentions can at times have dire consequences. If you cause an automobile accident while you are actively volunteering, are you sufficiently covered in regards to liability?
